Maybe your graphics are set to high and that's why...
Try with lower graphics and lower resolution...
DirectX is installed with Windows for a long time now, and also when installing games, those which require it will ask you to instal it after the game installation, and usually come with the game on the disk/digital download...
Finally.... the game will not run if you don't have it installed! 😜

i looked again on intel website his p4 has hyper threading that is why it is showing as x2 cpu under vista so it is a single core 3.6Ghz cpu with ht

The 8600GT is an old card already... It's DDR2.
This game is graphically demanding so you need a more powerful one...the 5670 you mentioned should be enough to play it with your specs! 😀
